AARC Staff Salute Military During Memorial Day
June
2, 2008
Memorial Day week was celebrated with a salute to the military by AARC staff members, who assembled and shipped off care packages to eleven soldiers serving in Iraq.
The employees of the AARC try to do a service project a few times a year. This one coincided with Memorial Day and was met with great enthusiasm by the staff, who brought in non-perishable foods, toiletries, games, books and other items to be shared with the soldiers. A staff member had been made aware of the names of eleven soldiers.
“Everyone came together and really got behind this project,” said Sherry Milligan, associate executive director of the AARC. “Everyone brought something for the boxes and pitched in to sort, pack, and ship the goods.”
AARC has been a strong supporter
of those serving in the military. “A ‘We Honor Those Who Serve’
flag is displayed in our reception area and we pay tribute during each
national awards ceremony at the convention,” said Milligan. She
also noted that the AARC was rewarded with a beautiful bronze eagle statue
by the members of the Air Force in 2006 for AARC’s focus on the
military.
Members of the military on active duty have their dues and Congress fees waived. AARC is also about to launch a new Roundtable on the Military for anyone currently serving or interested in the uniformed services. More information will be published on that soon.
