AARC is standing alongside AANMA and other organizations, as it seeks to remove asthma and anaphylaxis medications from the FDA’s list of over the counter medications. A citizen’s petition is available that will be sent to the FDA demonstrating support for the waiver of these drugs from OTC status.

AANMA (Allergy and Asthma Network/Mothers of Asthmatics) is seeking a rapid influx of public comment and support for the exemption of these drugs from its list of OTC medications. According to the petition this “heightens the problem of poorly managed diseases by undermining NIH, NHLBI, NAEPP and NIAID” guideline-based care. “The guidelines clearly demonstrate routine care reduces the need for medication, improves outcomes and reduces healthcare costs.”

AARC has already signed on to the petition. “We urge our members to also sign to show their support for patients who need good follow up and medical management for asthma,” said Tom Kallstrom, MBA, RRT, FAARC, AARC executive director.
