Respiratory therapists are among the health professionals being sought by the Department of Health and Human Services on a new website aimed at pre-registering personnel who are willing to serve in the event of a medical emergency.

Launched to assist key professionals in the registration process, the Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP) site includes detailed information about signing up for the program, who is eligible, and the four credential levels used by the program.

The site also guides volunteers to the ESAR-VHP website in their state of residence, where they can register for the program.

The AARC has been actively involved in helping to recruit respiratory therapists for government disaster response programs for many years now, and has also teamed up with the government to provide a training program for RTs on disaster ventilators. The Association encourages any member who is able to consider visiting this new website and pre-registering to serve our nation in the event of a disaster situation.
