Conventional Mechanical Ventilation of the Neonate: Is Pressure or Volume a Better Target?
Presented by Steven M. Donn, M.D.
For more than 30 years, pressure-targeted ventilation was the exclusive way to provide mechanical ventilation to newborns with respiratory failure. The advent of microprocessor-based technology and the development of small, light, and accurate sensors has enabled introduction of volume-targeted ventilation in the NICU. This presentation will review the differences between these two target variables and the accumulated evidence to date.
